UK Bus Operator of the Year

We’re delighted to have been awarded the highly prestigious award of UK Bus Operator of the Year for 2009.  This is the “grand-prix” of the annual UK Bus Awards.  It’s regarded as the crème-de-la-crème and is selected from the highest scoring contestants of the Independent Bus Operator, Shire Bus Operator and City Bus Operator of the Year categories. 

Brighton & Hove was chosen as City Bus Operator of the Year against rivals shortlisted in Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle and Nottingham.  In selecting the overall winner the judges considered the different circumstances of operators of varying sizes and operating areas.  ‘Mystery traveller’ assessments were very important and  a deciding factor.

“I would like to pay tribute to and thank the whole team who work so hard at Brighton & Hove Bus and Coach Company to deliver the best possible service every day and night.  It’s a huge credit to their dedication that we have been awarded this prestigious prize and I am very grateful for all their efforts”, Roger French, Brighton & Hove’s managing director commented.  “I would also like to thank colleagues at Brighton & Hove City Council with whom we work in close partnership to deliver an effective transport option for the city as well as with our neighbouring local authorities in the wider Sussex area”.

Brighton & Hove has bucked national trends and grown the market for bus travel consistently every year since 1993 and is regularly cited as an example of best practice bus provision in the UK.  This latest award adds to a growling list of accolades the Company has won dating back to 1985.  More details of these awards can be seen here.
