It’s hard to believe but Prince Charles has celebrated his 60th birthday in November 2008. To mark this special occasion, Windsor Castle is currently hosting a special exhibition, including a series of intimate family photos that follow the Prince’s life from his childhood up to the present day. The photos featured include Prince Charles as a schoolboy playing with his sister Princess Anne; Prince Charles as a teenager starring in a school production of Macbeth, pictures taken during his military career and of his wedding to Princess Diana.

Windsor Only

Tuesday, 17 February 2009
Windsor is a suburban town and tourist destination in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in Berkshire, England. It is best known as the site of Windsor Castle.

It is immediately south of the River Thames, which forms its boundary with Eton. The village of Old Windsor, just over two miles to the south, predates what is now called Windsor by around 300 years.

Windsor is a popular tourist destination and location of Windsor Castle, one of the official residences of the British Royal Family. The castle was originally established by King William I of England but has been substantially altered and added to over the centuries.

As a result of the royal residence Windsor has facilities usually found in larger towns: two railway stations, a theatre and several substantial hotels. The town is also the location of Legoland, built on the site of Windsor Safari Park. On construction, several tons of hippo dung had to be removed from the enclosure used by the animals

Sluis is probably the most Flemish town of the Netherlands with an extremely rich history and culture, located near the Belgium border and with ancient commercial ties to Bruges for which it was once a port. This is a city that counts itself one of the most attractive shopping, dining and entertaining cities in Europe. As soon as you enter the city limits and visit the countless restaurants, shops and historic sights you will feel as if you have entered a different world - old times and new blending into a perfect combination, partly as a result of the extensive reconstruction after heavy bombing in 1944. The city offers historic ramparts, a restored windmill damaged in World War II, a canal and quay and for the more energetic, climb the Belfort (Belfry) to enjoy panoramic views of the entire city. Sluis is well worth a visit.

You will hear of conditions in the workhouse, the Newbolts’ breakfast concerts for hundreds of fashionable people, the tower used in the Napoleonic wars, famous (and infamous) local residents and our ancient seat of local government for the area. Boulogne & Auchan Hypermarket France via Ferry

Tuesday, 06 October 2009
Although Boulogne (or Boulogne Sur-Mer) is an important port and fishing town in Northern France, much like Calais, it has heaps of charm. Cross Channel ferries no longer dock here, which has had a slight effect on the local economy where 7,000 inhabitants derive part or all of their livelihoods from fishing.

Rising above the lower town is an attractive medieval quarter, the ville haute, contained within the old town walls and dominated by a grand, domed cathedral of Notre Dame, constructed in the 19th century. The medieval castle museum boasts collections of Greek ceramics, Roman and medieval sculptures, and paintings (15th-20th century), as well as access to underground Roman walls. Amid the newer shopping streets of the ville basse are some of the best food shops in the whole region, along with a large array of fish restaurants.

We will also visit the Auchan Hypermarket to allow you to stock up on your favourite French and European produce. Open since October 2008, it now has a new garden centre section.

Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway

Friday, 30 October 2009
The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway is Kent’s mainline in miniature. First opened in July 1927 as the ‘World’s Smallest Public Railway’ with a gauge of just 15 inches, it now stretches for 13.5 miles from Hythe, near the channel tunnel, to the fisherman’s cottages, power stations and lighthouses at Dungeness, now famous for Derek Jarman’s garden, and is the most enjoyable way to see the Romney Marsh.

The gift and souvenir shops at New Romney, Hythe, Dymchurch and Dungeness stations all sell items of confectionery and refreshments whilst the ‘Light Railway Café’ at Dungeness Station serves a full menu and is famous for its local fish and chips.
