Brighton Marathon Diversion
Due to the closure of roads in the town centre and elsewhere we will be running a limited bus service until approximately 13:30 when full services can start to be restored.
Closure of Church Road (Hove), New Church Road & Boundary Road
From 08:30 until 18:00, Church Road and New Church Road will be closed west of The Drive, and the southern part of Boundary Road will be also closed.
Hove Town Hall and New Church Road cannot be served during this time.
Westbound buses (Towards Hove) will operate from Palmeira Square via Selbourne Road and Eaton Road to Blatchington Road.
Eastbound buses (Towards Brighton) will operate from Blatchington Road via Eaton Road and Selbourne Road to Palmeira Square.
Route 1 will operate in both directions via Portland Road, Portslade Station and Victoria Road
instead of via New Church Road and the A259.
Route 6 will operate in both directions via Portland Road instead of New Church Road.
Closure of Old Steine
From 06:30 until 13:15 services will not be able to cross, enter or start from Old Steine.
Closure of the Coast Road
Until approximately 14:00 Coast Road services will terminate at Upper Bedford Street (Bingo Hall) and will be on diversion via Woodingdean & Race Hill.
Between 14:30-15:00 services will still be on diversion via Woodingdean & Race Hill but will serve Churchill Square.
From 15:00-17:00 services will operate via Roedean Road & Edward Street.
From 15:00-17:00 the Sea Life Roundabout is closed, services will operate via Edward Street & Roedean Road in both directions.
Service 27 that will use St James’ Street eastbound (towards Saltdean).
Buses from the west (Hove) will be turning at Churchill Square.
Eastbound buses terminating in Western Road will operate via Montpelier Road, Upper North Street & Regent Hill, services will drop off and start from a temporary stop at Clarence Square.
Routes 1/1A
Until 13:00, buses will operate between Mile Oak & Clarence Square and between Eastern Road (Upper Bedford Street) & Whitehawk only.
Buses will operate via Portland Road instead of New Church Road until 18:00
Routes 2/2A
Until 15:00 these services will operate between Steyning/Shoreham and Churchill Square/Old Steine only.
The section of route between Churchill Square and Rottingdean will be suspended until the 14:30.
The first westbound departure from Rottingdean will be at 15:01 – a limited alternative service in Woodingdean and Sutherland Road will be available on
diverted Route 27.
Routes 5/5A/5B
Until 12:55 these services will operate between Hangleton and Clarence Square only.
The service to Patcham and Hollingbury will be suspended during the morning – the first departures will be at 12:55 from Hollingbury ASDA and at 13:02 from Patcham (Mackie Avenue).
Route 6
Normal service, but via Portland Road until 18:00
Route 7
From 06:20 until 12:52 this service will operate between George Street and Imperial Arcade only.
Buses from Hove will run via Brighton Station & Queens Road to Imperial Arcade, services to Hove will operate via Buckingham Road & Upper Gloucester Road to Brighton Station then normal
route.
The first service 7 across town will be the 12:59 departure from George Street services to/from the Marina will operate from the Marina to Upper Bedford Street.
The first service 7 across town will be the 13:02 departure from the Marina.
Routes 12/12A/13X
Until 13:14, buses will start and terminate at Eastern Road (Upper Bedford Street), operating nonstop between Bingo Hall and Rottingdean.
Eastbound (Towards Easbourne) via Eastern Road, Wilsons Avenue, Downs Hotel & Falmer Road to Rottingdean.
Westbound (Towards Steyning) via Rottingdean, Falmer Road, Downs Hotel, Race Hill & Freshfield Road.
From 13:39 until 14:20, buses will start from or terminate at Brighton Station as normal but will run non-stop between Upper Bedford Street and Rottingdean via Edward Street then diversion route as
above.
The last departure starting from Upper Bedford Street is the 13:47 service 12A.
Between 14:45 and 16:52, buses will operate via Eastern Road and Roedean Road between Brighton Station and Rottingdean, observing all stops, in both directions.
Service 13X will serve Roedean Road and Arundel Road while on diversion.
Routes 14/14B
From 06:30 until 12:58, buses will start and terminate at Eastern Road (Gala Bingo), operating as Route 14C non-stop from Rottingdean to Roedean Road via Falmer Road, Woodingdean and
Wilson Avenue, then observing all stops along Eastern Road.
Brighton Marina will not be served during this time.
From 13:40 until 15:09 buses arriving at Brighton Station will be via the diversion as above then the normal 14C route.
The 13:38, 13:51 & 14:36 Departures from Brighton Station operate via the diversion above.
Between 15:21 and 16:19, buses arriving at Brighton Station will continue to operate as Route 14C, running via Roedean Road and Eastern Road, observing all stops.
Between 15:08 & 16:58 departures operate via Roedean Road then normal route to Rottingdean.
Normal service will resume at 17:08 from Brighton Station & 16:40 from Peacehaven.
Route 18
This route will be suspended until 13:35. The first departures will be from Stonehurst Court 13:37 and Brighton Station at 13:55.
Route 21/21A
Until 13:01, buses from the Marina will terminate at Pepper Pot. Buses from Goldstone Valley will terminate at Clarence Square, a revised timetable applies on these journeys.
Normal service will resume from 13:00
Route 22
Until the 13:10 departure, buses will run between Woodingdean and Lewes Road Bus Garage only, operating via Hartington Road between Race Hill and the Garage.
Route 23
Until 12:30 services to and from Sussex University will operate via Hartington Road
Route 24
Until the 13:10 departure from Hollingbury ASDA this service will run between Hollingbury ASDA and Lewes Road Bus Garage only.
The first departure from Churchill Square will be 13:57
Route 25
From 06:17 until 13:03, Route 25 will operate between the Universities and Lewes Road Garage only.
Last morning service 25 due through the Old Steine at 06:26, The first service 25 will operate from Old Steine at 13:23
Route 26 (and 46 in Hollingbury)
Until the 13:11 departure from Hollingbury, buses will run between Hollingbury ASDA and Rugby Road only. Buses returning towards Hollingbury will start from Ditchling Road/Rugby Road. The
first departure from Churchill Square on the 26 will be 13:37
Route 27
Until 14:30, buses to/from Saltdean will run via Route 2 from Rottingdean via Woodingdean and Sutherland Road to terminate at Brighton College, because of this long diversion, a revised
timetable will apply between Saltdean and Brighton until 1250. Buses will operate generally every 30 minutes during this time.
The 12:50-14:30 Journeys from Saltdean will operate through to the Town Centre but will run via the diversion route as above. The 14:50-16:10 Journeys from Saltdean via Roedean Road and
Eastern Road between Rottingdean and Old Steine. Normal service will resume at 16:30 from Saltdean.
Until 13:57 buses from Westdene buses will run via Queens Road and Clock Tower will terminate at Imperial Arcade. Services towards Westdene will operate via Buckingham Road, Upper
Gloucester Road and normal route from Brighton Station.
The 13:57-15:40 Journeys from Westdene will operate via St. James’ Street & Roedean Road.
The 16:01-departure from Withdean Stadium onwards operates normal route.
Routes 28/29/29A
Buses from Tunbridge Wells, Ringmer and Lewes will terminate at from Lewes Road Bus Garage until 13:03.
Normal service from Churchill Square will resume with the 13:51 departure.
Normal service from the North will be the 12:02 departure from Tunbridge Wells
Route 46 (Southwick & Portslade Station)
Until 13:27, buses will run between Southwick and Clarence Square & Buxted Rise & Rugby Road only.
Between 14:05 & 17:43 services that normally serve Portslade Station will terminate at Palmeira Square
Route 48
Until 12:45, buses will run between Lower Bevendean and Lewes Road Garage only. Normal service from Bevendean will resume with the 12:59 departure from Bodiam Avenue terminus.
From Churchill Square service will resume at 13:51
Route 49
Until 13:34, buses will run between Moulsecoomb & Lewes Road Garage only, from 12:53-17:27 services will then run Moulsecoomb to Palmeria Square only.
From 17:43 normal service will resume.
Route 50
Until 13:09 only a shuttle service between Lewes Road Sainsburys and Hollingdean will operate.
Normal service will resume from 13:29.
Route 77
This service will operate between Churchill Square & Devils Dyke route all day. Apart from the 14:40 & 18:30 departures from Devils Dyke which will terminate at Old Steine.
Route 78
This service will operate between Lewes Road Garage to Stanmer Park, then as normal at 13:55 departure from the park, onto the 14:30 departure from Old Steine
Route 79
This service will operate between Rugby Road & Ditchling Beacon, then as normal from the 13:40 departure for the Beacon onto the 14:26 departure from Old Steine.
