    A27 Falmer - Road Closure Westbound

    Monday 18 March – Friday 12 April 2019 (date extended)

    Carriageway roadworks will be undertaken on the westbound carriageway on the A27 at Falmer Station on the above dates. During this time, the road will be formally closed between 8pm – 6am each night. The following services will need to divert as follows:

    Service 28/29

    Westbound services will need to exit the A27 at the junction of The Drove B2123 and then turn right (second exit) at the mini roundabout. Services will then take the first exit and enter Sussex University on the Eastern Ring Road turning left onto Southern Ring Road. Services will then continue onto Stoney Mere Way in Sussex University to resume normal route from the stop at Brighton Academy.

    Service 23/25/N25

    Services once leaving Sussex University or Falmer Campus will to divert back through Sussex University via the Eastern Ring Road turning left onto Southern Ring Road. Services will then continue onto Stoney Mere Way in Sussex University to resume normal route from the stop at Brighton Academy.

    During these times Falmer Station Bus Stop will be suspended.

    Brighton Marathon - road closures and diversions

    Sunday 14 April 2019

    The Brighton Marathon will lead to the closure of roads in the city centre and elsewhere, it is only possible to run a limited bus service until approximately 12noon when full services can start to be restored. Old Steine will be closed from 6am, although night service buses will be allowed through the closure until 7am.

    Closure of Church Road (Hove), New Church Road & Boundary Road

    From 7am until 4pm, Church Road and New Church Road will be closed west of The Drive, and the southern part of Boundary Road will be also closed. Hove Town Hall and New Church Road cannot be served during this time.

    Westbound buses will operate from Palmeira Square via Selbourne Road and Eaton Road to Blatchington Road.

    Eastbound buses will operate from Blatchington Road via Eaton Road and Selbourne Road to Palmeira Square.

    Route 1 will operate in both directions via Portland Road, Portslade Station and Victoria Road instead of via New Church Road and St. Andrews Road/A259. Route 6 will operate in both directions via Portland Road instead of New Church Road.

    Buses from the west turning at Churchill Square

    Eastbound buses terminating in Western Road will operate via Montpelier Road, Upper North Street and Regent Hill to the Clarence Square stop, returning via normal route.

    Routes 1/1A

    Until 12noon, buses will operate between Mile Oak & Churchill Square and between Eastern Road (Gala Bingo) & Whitehawk only. Buses will operate via Portland Road instead of New Church Road until 4pm – see above.

    Routes 2

    Until 12noon buses will operate between Steyning/Shoreham and Churchill Square only.

    The section of route between Churchill Square and Rottingdean will be suspended until the 12.24pm ex Churchill Square for eastbound buses. The first westbound departure from Rottingdean will be at 1.11pm – a limited alternative service in Woodingdean and Sutherland Road will be available on diverted Route 27.

    Routes 5/5A/5B

    Until 12noon these services will operate between Hangleton and Churchill Square only.

    The service to Patcham and Hollingbury will be suspended during the morning – the first departures will be at 11.40am from Hollingbury ASDA and at 11.47am from Patcham (Mackie Avenue).

    Route 6

    Normal service, but via Portland Road until 4pm (see above).

    Route 7

    From 7am until 12noon this service will operate between George Street and the Clock Tower only. Buses from Hove will run via Upper Gloucester Road and Buckingham Road to Imperial Arcade, returning via the Clock Tower and Queens Road.

    Services to/from the Marina will be suspended until 12noon during which time a limited alternative service on Route 23 will run every 15 minutes between the Marina and Eastern Road (Upper Bedford Street).

    Routes 12/12A

    Until 12noon, buses will start and terminate at Eastern Road (Upper Bedford Street), operating non-stop between to Rottingdean via Freshfield Road, Race Hill, Woodingdean and Falmer Road.

    From 12noon until 1.30pm, buses will start from/terminate at Churchill Square as normal, but will run non-stop between North Street/Old Steine and Rottingdean via Edward Street then diversion route as above.

    Between 1.30pm and 2.30pm, buses will operate via Eastern Road and Roedean Road between the City Centre and Rottingdean, observing all stops.

    In general, normal times will apply at points east of Rottingdean, with buses leaving earlier from Brighton eastbound, and arriving in Brighton later westbound.

    Normal service will resume at 2.30pm, except that, until 5pm, the Sea Life Centre and New Steine stops cannot be served. Westbound buses will operate via Rock Gardens and Edward Street, eastbound buses via St. James's Street and Rock Gardens.

    Route 13X

    Until 2.30pm, buses will terminate at Churchill Square, serving Brighton Station, then running non-stop to Seaford, operating via Dyke Road. A27, A26, and vice versa.

    Normal service will resume at 2.30pm, except that, until 5pm, the Sea Life Centre stops cannot be served. Westbound buses will operate via Rock Gardens and Edward Street, eastbound buses via St.James's Street and Rock Gardens.

    Routes 14/14B/14C

    From 7am until 12noon, buses will start and terminate at Eastern Road (Upper Bedford Street), operating as Route 14C non-stop from Rottingdean to Roedean Road via Falmer Road, Woodingdean and Wilson Avenue, then observing all stops along Eastern Road. Brighton Marina cannot be served during this time.

    From 12noon until 1.30pm, buses will run through to Brighton Station via the diversion as above then the normal 14C route.

    Between 1.30pm and 2.30pm, buses will continue to operate as Route 14C, running via Roedean Road and Eastern Road, observing all stops, but not serving Brighton Marina.

    In general, normal times will apply at points east of Rottingdean, with buses leaving earlier from Brighton eastbound, and arriving in Brighton later westbound.

    Normal service will resume at 2.30pm, except that, until 5pm, the Sea Life Centre and New Steine stops cannot be served. Westbound buses will operate via Rock Gardens and Edward Street, eastbound buses via St.James's Street and Rock Gardens.

    Route 18

    This route will be suspended until 12noon. The first departures will be from the Pepper Pot at 12noon and Brighton Station at 12.15pm.

    Route 21/21A

    Until 12noon, buses from the Marina will terminate at Pepper Pot, returning to the Marina via Down Terrace. Buses from Goldstone Valley will not be able to serve Hove Town Hall and will terminate at Churchill Square.

    Normal service will resume from 12noon, but buses will not be able to serve Hove Town Hall until 4pm.

    Route 22

    Until 12noon, buses will run between Woodingdean and Lewes Road Bus Garage only, operating via Hartington Road between Race Hill and the Garage.

    Route 23

    Normal service, except that, until 12noon, buses will operate via Elm Grove, Ryde Road and Hartington Road between Queens Park Junction and Lewes Road Garage. From 7am until 12noon buses will run every 15 minutes between Brighton Marina and Eastern Road (Upper Bedford Street), replacing Route 7.

    Route 25

    From 7am until 12noon, Route 25 will operate between the Universities and Lewes Road Garage only.

    Route 24

    Until 12noon buses will run between Hollingbury ASDA and Lewes Road Bus Garage only.

    Route 26 (and 46 in Hollingbury)

    Until 12noon, buses will run between Hollingbury ASDA and Fiveways only. Buses returning towards Hollingbury will start from Ditchling Road/Rugby Road.

    Route 27

    Until 12noon, buses to/from Saltdean will run via Route 2 from Rottingdean via Woodingdean to terminate at Eastern Road (Upper Bedford Street). Because of this long diversion, a revised timetable will apply between Saltdean and Brighton until 2.30pm. Buses will operate generally every 30 minutes during this time.

    From 12noon until 1.30pm, buses to/from Saltdean will operate through to the City Centre, but will run via St.James's Street (eastbound)/Edward Street (westbound) to Upper Bedford Street then diversion route as above. Brighton Marina cannot be served until after 2.30pm. Between 1.30pm and 2.30pm the diversion via Woodingdean will cease and buses will run via Roedean Road and Eastern Road between Rottingdean and Old Steine.

    Until 1.30pm buses from Westdene will terminate at the Clock Tower. From Westdene buses will run via Upper Gloucester Road and Buckingham Road to Imperial Arcade, returning via the Clock Tower and Queens Road. A slightly revised timetable will apply.

    Normal cross-city services will resume from 1pm onwards, except that, until 5pm, the Sea Life Centre and New Steine stops cannot be served. Westbound buses will operate via Rock Gardens and Edward Street, eastbound buses via St.James's Street and Rock Gardens.

    Routes 28/29

    Buses from Tunbridge Wells, Ringmer and Lewes will terminate at/start from Lewes Road Bus Garage until 12noon. Normal service from Churchill Square will resume with the 12.35pm departure.

    Route 46 (Southwick)

    Until 12noon, buses will run between Southwick and Churchill Square only.

    Route 48

    Until 12noon, buses will run between Lower Bevendean and Lewes Road Garage only. Normal service from Bevendean will resume with the 12.01pm departure from Bodiam Avenue terminus.

    Route 49

    Services to/from Portslade will be suspended until 4pm – alternative buses on Portland Road will be available on Routes 2 and 46 also on diverted Routes 1/1A and 6.

    Until 12noon, buses will run between East Moulsecoomb and Lewes Road Garage only. From 12noon to 4pm, buses will run between East Moulsecoomb and Palmeira Square on their normal timetable. Normal service will resume from 4pm onwards.

    Route 50

    Until 12noon only a shuttle service between Lewes Road Sainsburys and Hollingdean will operate. Normal service will resume from 12noon.

    Route 77

    This service will be suspended until the 12.45pm departure from the City Centre which will start from Old Steine stop Q. For the rest of the day, buses will terminate in Old Steine at stop Q, and will run via North Street, Upper North Street and Regent Hill to Churchill Square where they resume normal route. Brighton Palace Pier, the i360 and Clarence square cannot be served during this time. Towards the City Centre, buses will follow their normal route but will terminate in Old Steine.

    Route 78

    This service will start at 12.17pm from Lewes Road Garage to Stanmer Park, then as normal.

    Route 79

    This service will start at 12.15pm from Old Steine to Ditchling Beacon, then as normal.
