1X FAQs
How will the route 1 service be improved by these changes?
The 1 and 1X will provide an overall increased frequency and a more regular service pattern than before. The former journey pattern between the 1 and the 1A meant that every third journey (1,1,1A) missed out St James Street. The adjusted journey time not only means that St James Street is no longer missed out, but it also assists with punctuality, particularly in the afternoon when local traffic is at its peak. To accommodate this change, a few of the route 1 services in the day will offer a frequency of every eight minutes rather than every seven minutes.
The link to the Marina now provides a new link from the west of the city where they currently have no link there.
The service also offers a faster and increased service to the Royal Sussex County hospital supporting key workers in getting to work and residents attending appointments.
How does Whitehawk benefit from these changes?
In total there are thirteen departures from Whitehawk before 07.00 on Monday to Friday compared to the current timetable which has 8 departures from Whitehawk.
The additional 1X service will provide increased capacity along the route 1. Passengers from Whitehawk can access the 1X service from the Arundel Road stop and get into the city quicker than the route 1. The route 1 will continue to offer a high frequency service for those who prefer to catch the bus from their regular stop.
With increased capacity there will be more seats for passengers. With more buses operating on this route, alighting times will be quicker and therefore reduce timetable delays. Whitehawk residents will have an improved service.
What happens to the 1A service?
The 1A will become part of the route 1 and serve the same route throughout via St James Street which is an important link to Whitehawk. At Mile Oak there are no bus stops being missed and passengers using the old 1A route will receive a more frequent service when the 1X is introduced.
