    Due to congestion caused by the Marathon, our services may be delayed. Passengers are advised to check the live time boards or the mobile app live times

    Due to the road closures associated with the Brighton Marathon it is only possible to run a limited bus service until approximately 12:00 when full services can start to be restored.

    Old Steine will be closed from 06:30, although night service buses and early 25’s will be allowed through the closure
    until 07:00.


    From 07:00 until 16:00, Church Road and New Church Road will be closed west of The Drive, and the Southern part of Boundary Road will be also closed.
    Hove Town Hall and New Church Road cannot be served during this time.

    Westbound buses will operate from Palmeira Square via Selbourne Road and Eaton Road to Blatchington Road.

    Eastbound buses will operate from Blatchington Road via Eaton Road and Selbourne Road to Palmeira Square.

    Route 1 will operate in both directions via Portland Road, Portslade Station and Victoria Road
    instead of via New Church Road and the A259.

    Route 6 will operate in both directions via Portland Road instead of New Church Road.

    Closure of Old Steine
    From 07:00 until 12:00 services from the North & East will not Cross, enter or start from Old Steine.

    Closure of the Coast Road
    Until approximately 12:30 Coast Road services will terminate at Upper Bedford Street (Bingo Hall) and will be on diversion Via Woodingdean & Race Hill.
    Between 1230-1330 services will still be on diversion Via Woodingdean & Race Hill but will serve Churchill Square.
    From 13:30-14:30 Services will operate Via Roedean Road & Edward Street. From 14:30-17:00 the Sea LIfe Roundabout is closed services will operate via Edward Street & Rock Gardens in Both Directions.
    Apart from the Service 27 that will use St James’ Street Eastbound

    Buses from the west turning at Churchill Square

    Eastbound buses terminating in Western Road will operate via Montpelier Road, Upper NorthStreet & Dyke Road, turning right into Western Road to Serve Churchill Square.

    Routes 1/1A
    Until 12:00, buses will operate between Mile Oak & Churchill Square and between Eastern Road
    (Upper Bedford Street) & Whitehawk only. Buses will operate via Portland Road instead of New
    Church Road until 16:00 – see above.

    Routes 2/2A
    Until 12:00 these services will operate between Steyning/Shoreham and Churchill Square only.
    The section of route between Churchill Square and Rottingdean will be suspended until the 12:28 ex Churchill Square for eastbound buses. The first westbound departure from Rottingdean will be at 13:01 – a limited alternative service in Woodingdean and Sutherland Road will be available on diverted Route 27.

    Routes 5/5A/5B
    Until 12:00 these services will operate between Hangleton and Clarence Square only.
    The service to Patcham and Hollingbury will be suspended during the morning – the first departures will be at 11:40 from Hollingbury ASDA and at 11:47 from Patcham (Mackie Avenue).

    Route 6
    Normal service, but via Portland Road until 16:00 (see above).

    Route 7
    From 07:00 until 12:00 this service will operate between George Street and the Clock Tower only.
    Buses from Hove will run via Upper Gloucester Road and Buckingham Road to Imperial Arcade, returning via the Clock Tower and Queens Road.
    Services to/from the Marina will be suspended until the following departures, 11:52 from the Marina & 11:59 from George Street. Before that time a limited alternative service on Route 23 will run every 15 minutes between the Marina and Eastern Road (Upper Bedford Street).

    Routes 12/12A/13X
    Until 12:29, buses will start and terminate at Eastern Road (Upper Bedford Street), operating non stop between Bingo Hall and Rottingdean. Eastbound Via Eastern Road, Wilsons Avenue, Downs Hotel & Falmer Road to Rottingdean. Westbound via Rottingdean, Falmer Road, Downs Hotel, Race Hill & Freshfield Road.
    From 12:35 until 13:25, buses will start from/terminate at Brighton Station as normal, but will run non stop between Upper Bedford Street and Rottingdean via Edward Street then diversion route as above.
    The last Departure from Upper Bedford Street is the 12:35 service 13X
    Between 13:26 and 14:25, buses will operate via Eastern Road and Roedean Road between the Town Centre and Rottingdean, observing all stops.

    Normal service will resume at 14:26, except that, until 17:00, the Sea Life Centre and New Steine
    stops cannot be served. Westbound buses will operate via Rock Gardens and Edward Street, eastbound buses via Edward Street and Rock Gardens.

    Routes 14/14B
    From 07:00 until 12:00, buses will start and terminate at Eastern Road (Gala Bingo), operating as Route 14C non-stop from Rottingdean to Roedean Road via Falmer Road, Woodingdean and Wilson Avenue, then observing all stops along Eastern Road.
    Brighton Marina will not be served during this time.
    From 12:30 until 13:45 buses arriving at Brighton Station will be via the diversion as above then the normal 14C route. The 12:34 & 12:49 Departures from Brighton Station operate Via the diversion above.

    Between 13:46 and 15:00, buses arriving at Brighton Station will continue to operate as Route 14C, running via Roedean Road and Eastern Road, observing all stops.

    The 13:43 & 14:08 departures operate Via Roedean Road then normal route to Rottingdean.

    Normal service will resume at 14:30, except that, until 17:00, the Sea Life Centre and New Steinestops cannot be served. Westbound buses will operate via Rock Gardens and Edward Street,
    Eastbound buses via Edward Street and Rock Gardens.

    Route 18
    This route will be suspended until 11:55. The first departures will be from Stonehurst Court 11:57 and Brighton Station at 12:15.

    Route 21/21A
    Until 12:00, buses from the Marina will terminate at Pepper Pot. Buses from Goldstone Valley will not be able to serve Hove Town Hall and will terminate at Churchill Square,
    Normal service will resume from 12:00, but buses will not be able to serve Hove Town Hall until 16:00.

    Route 22
    Until 12:15, buses will run between Woodingdean and Lewes Road Bus Garage only, operating via Hartington Road between Race Hill and the Garage.

    Route 23
    From 07:00 until 12:00 buses will run every 15 minutes between Brighton Marina and Eastern Road(Upper Bedford Road), replacing Route 7.
    Services to and from Sussex University will operate Via Hartington Road

    Route 25
    From 06:30 until 12:21, Route 25 will operate between the Universities and Lewes Road Garage only.

    Route 24
    Until 12:00 buses will run between Hollingbury ASDA and Lewes Road Bus Garage only.

    Route 26 (and 46 in Hollingbury)
    Until 12:00, buses will run between Hollingbury ASDA and Fiveways only. Buses returning towards Hollingbury will start from Ditchling Road/Rugby Road.

    Route 27
    Until 12:30, buses to/from Saltdean will run via Route 2 from Rottingdean via Woodingdean and Sutherland Road to terminate at Upper Bedford Street (Bingo Hall). Because of this long diversion, a revised timetable will apply between Saltdean and Brighton until 12:50. B
    uses will operate generally every 30 minutes during this time.

    The 12:20 & 12:50 Journeys from Saltdean will operate through to the Town Centre, but will run via the diversion route as above. The 13:10-14:10 Journeys from Saltdean via Roedean Road and Eastern Road between Rottingdean and Old Steine.
    Normal service will resume at 14:30, except that, until 17:00, the Sea Life Centre and New Steine stops cannot be served.

    Until 13:30 buses from Westdene will terminate at the Clock Tower. From Westene buses will run via Upper Gloucester Road and Buckingham Road to Imperial Arcade, returning via the Clock Tower and Queens Road.
    12:44 & 13:04 Journeys from Brighton Station operate via the Woodingdean Diversion. The 13:28-14:08 departures from Withdean Stadium operate via Roedean Road.
    The 14:28-departure from Withdean Stadium onwards operates normal route, except that, until 17:00, the Sea Life Centre and New Steine stops cannot be served. All Eastbound buses on diversion operate via St.James Street and Rock Gardens.

    Routes 28/29
    Buses from Tunbridge Wells, Ringmer and Lewes will terminate at/start from Lewes Road Bus Garage until 12:00.
    Normal service from Churchill Square will resume with the 12:35 departure.

    Route 46 (Southwick)
    Until 12:00, buses will run between Southwick and Churchill Square & Buxted Rise & Fiveways only.

    Route 48
    Until 12:00, buses will run between Lower Bevendean and Lewes Road Garage only. Normal service from Bevendean will resume with the 12:01 departure from Bodiam Avenue terminus.

    Route 49
    Until 12:00, buses will run between Moulscoombe & Lewes Road Garage only, From 12:00-16:00 services will then run Moulscoome to Palmeria Square only. From 16:00 normal service will resume.

    Route 50
    Until 12:00 only a shuttle service between Lewes Road Sainsburys and Hollingdean will operate.
    Normal service will resume from 12:00.

    Route 77
    This service will be suspended until the 13:22 departure from Devils Dyke & 1246 departure from Old Steine.
    For the rest of the day, buses will terminate in Old Steine at stop Q, and will run via North Street, Upper North Street and Regent Hill to Churchill Square where they resume normal route.
    The Brighton Pier and i360 cannot be served during this time.
    Towards the Town Centre, buses will follow their normal route but will terminate in Old Steine.

    Route 78
    This service will start at 12:20 from Lewes Road Garage to Stanmer, then as normal.

    Please note these routes are subject to change and there may be delays to your journey throughout the day

  • Church Lane - Malling Hill - Road closure - Diversion

    13th Mar 2023 - 4th Apr 2023

    Nightly from the 13th March until 4th April, a section of Church Lane and Malling Hill will be closed. Because of this, Service 28 & 29 will need to divert between 20:00 & 05:00.

    On all dates except the nights of the 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th & 27th of March, Service 29s will need to operate the 28 route from 20:00 via Brooks Road, South Downs Road, Mayhew Way, and Church Lane in both directions.

    The Late Malling service 28s will terminate at Sackville House and turn using the roundabout, to restart from the opposite Sackville House stop.


    On the nights of the 15th, 16th, 17th and 27th of March there will be a total closure of the junction of Church Lane and Malling Hill.

    Because of this, services will need to divert as follows:

    Services towards Ringmer, Uckfield & Tunbridge Wells; From the Snail roundabout will turn right into the Cullfial tunnel then follow the road to the end, left onto the A27 , left onto Laceys Hill.
    Services will then follow the road all the way along Lacys Hill, at the junction with Moor lane will bear left and continue on New Road then turn Right back onto the B2192 where Ringmer services can resume normal route.

    Service 29 will need to turn left onto Vicarage Way, Church Hill and then Ham Lane to return to the A26 to resume Normal route.

    Services towards Brighton will follow the same diversion in reverse
