Go-Ahead Technical Apprenticeships

6 months ago Sun 8th Feb 2026

We are now calling for the next generation of talented engineers to apply for Brighton & Hove Buses’ (part of Go-Ahead) industry leading engineering apprenticeship programme, offering applicants the chance to build real-world skills for life while earning qualifications and wages. Applications for the programme will be open until 22nd March, with the first intake starting in July 2026.

Without our engineers, our 296 buses wouldn’t be able to transport millions of customers across Brighton, Hove and East Sussex every year. Without them, daily life as we know it would grind to a halt, meaning people wouldn’t be able to get to work, visit their families, or see their friends. Our engineers are also important facilitators of developments in sustainable technology, already looking after our 54 zero-emission buses, helping revolutionise green travel and ultimately making our cities cleaner and healthier places to be!

This programme is for men and women who want more than just a job. It is an opportunity to join a team that takes pride in delivering a safe and reliable service that keeps millions of customers moving every day. From day one, apprentices will begin developing practical, transferable skills while working with advanced zero-emission technology.

Apprentices will initially learn about complex mechanical and electrical systems in classrooms and in real-life settings before joining Brighton & Hove Buses to learn on the job whilst gaining a qualification and earning a wage. The programme will be delivered in partnership with S&B Automative Academy, one of the leading providers of apprenticeships to the automotive sector and will include placements with some of Go-Ahead’s other partners.

Go-Ahead is committed to removing barriers to entry by providing substantial financial support to successful applicants, including funded driving lessons and tests, to help more people start a career in engineering regardless of their background. Dedicated mentors will help guide and support recruits throughout the programme.

Rupert Cox, Interim Managing Director at Brighton & Hove Buses said:

“We’re looking for the best of the best to join our engineering teams. This apprenticeship is a great opportunity for those who want to earn while they learn and develop skills that support long-term careers. This investment from Go-Ahead has created an excellent opportunity for men and women considering a career in engineering and we are committed to broadening access for underrepresented groups, including women, into engineering roles. This apprenticeship programme also supports Go-Ahead’s long-term commitment to transition to a fully zero-emission bus fleet by 2035.”
