Bus tour a hit at Ageing Well Festival
We ran an open-topped bus tour as part of the city’s Ageing Well Festival last week (Thursday 23 September).
Passengers were treated to panoramic views of Brighton and Hove while an audio bus tour revealed some of the fascinating stories behind Brighton’s most famous landmarks like the Royal Pavilion, the Grand Hotel and Brunswick Square, as the bus travelled through the city.
Caroline Ridley, CEO of Impact Initiatives, which runs the Ageing Well Festival, said the free tour on our City Sightseeing Bus was always one of the biggest hits of the two-week festival for the over 50s, which runs until 4 October. We are an official partner of the festival.
“What better way to see our city than from an open top bus? Many older people are still worried about going into the city centre and this bus tour has been a fantastic way to build confidence in getting out and about again,” said Caroline.
"Most of all, though, it was simply great fun and we all need some of that after the last eighteen months. The free bus tour is always one of the most popular festival events and gets booked up really quickly. Early feedback from this year's trip has already been really enthusiastic."
Retired teacher Alison Cochrane from Hove said she really enjoyed the tour, “it’s interesting. The thing is I don’t [normally] go on it because I live here. I love the view.”
Alison said she planned on doing a lot more bus travel now she was retired and had a concessionary pass.
Brighton & Hove Managing Director Martin Harris said: “It’s great to be part of the Ageing Well Festival again this year. When it's on, it really brings the city to life.
“Make the most of the city you live in and connect with the people and places you love. Buses are the smart way to travel. You are also reducing your carbon footprint and improving air quality in your community by taking the bus, rather than getting in the car.”
We recently launched our Choose Bus campaign, which highlights the many benefits of catching the bus, including the fact buses are frequent, clean, good value, and accessible.
Our City Sightseeing tours run until 30 October.
