Highlights from our electric launch

On 13th April 2026, Brighton & Hove Buses celebrated the launch of electric buses in our city. The Deputy Lieutenant, Mayor of Brighton & Hove, the Department for Transport, Brighton & Hove City Councillors and key representatives from local accessibility groups and charities were in attendance, supporting the commitment to achieve cleaner air for the community. 

Following with a live steel band, cabaret performers and themed merchandise, driving a bus into the Pavilion gardens for the first time since it was a fully working road in the 1800s, was the main attraction, welcoming the community to step aboard the bus and explore it's new features. 

Together, this collaborative and evolving approach ensures our electric buses are not only better for the environment, but create a more inclusive, accessible and dementia-friendly experience for all our communities. Learn more about our electric buses.

The launch event also featured the unveiling of ‘The Road to Electric’, an exclusive exhibition detailing over 140 years of Brighton & Hove Buses history, alongside a state-of-the-art short film introducing the arrival of electric buses to the city of Brighton and Hove.

Hedley Swain, Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove Museums said: 

We were thrilled to be able to host this important launch event and include a small multi-media display on the history of Brighton buses in Brighton Museum & Art Gallery that will run throughout the summer. Buses have been and continue to be an important part of Brighton & Hove life and the new electric buses mark a new milestone in local bus history.

The multi-media exhibition is available to view at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery until September 2026.
