Celebrating 125 years of public transport from Lewes Road Bus Depot
Yesterday

From trams, to trolleybuses, to today! Lewes Road Bus Depot has helped keep the city moving for 125 years and to celebrate, we’re hosting a free depot open day on Saturday 25th July 2026.
Lewes Road Bus Depot will open its doors from 10:00am to 4:00pm for what's guaranteed to be a fun-filled day for all!
Home to Brighton Tramways before the buzzing bus depot, Lewes Road Bus Depot is a location central to Brighton and Hove’s transport history and heritage. Today, just one Brighton passenger tram remains intact - Tram No. 53.
Brighton Tram 53 society is currently restoring the tram and will be at the open day with historical information, and the rare chance to take a look at Tram No. 53 itself!
In addition to Tram No. 53, a selection of classic buses will be on display alongside those currently in operation by Brighton & Hove Buses.
Enjoy a bus ride through the depot bus wash and beyond, with special shuttle bus services running between Volk's Railway and Stanmer Park and Lewes Road Depot operated by brand-new electric and classic buses.
Meet our community partners in Saunders Park, enjoy refreshments, and purchase bus memorabilia, event programmes and exclusive event merchandise.
Interested in joining Brighton & Hove Buses? Start your journey and speak to the training team throughout the day at the event.
No parking is available for this event so we encourage those attending to travel by bus or public transport where possible. Lewes Road Bus Depot is located by ‘Lewes Road Bus Garage (adj/opp)’ bus stops and the open day event is fully accessible.
