Remember: It’s Everyone’s Journey as people come back to bus

4 months ago Fri 28th May 2021

We are supporting the relaunch of the Department for Transport’s (DfT) campaign, It’s Everyone’s Journey, this month. The campaign addresses issues faced specifically by disabled people when returning to the transport network and aims to help disabled people travel confidently, easily and without extra cost.

It’s Everyone’s Journey helps show passengers the impact that unconscious attitudes and behaviour can have on disabled people. It’s all about the little things you can do to make a difference to someone’s journey, like give up a priority seat or be patient if somebody takes a bit longer to find their bus pass. The campaign was developed by a partnership between disabled people, disabled groups, industry and government.

Brighton & Hove and Metrobus is also supporting an open letter to the general public from transport operators, charities and influencers, asking everyone to be more supportive and considerate of those around them as they travel, while remembering that not all disabilities are visible. Brighton & Hove and Metrobus Managing Director Martin Harris said: “You can make a world of difference to somebody’s journey and their day by taking a few seconds to think about what other passengers might need when they travel, whether that’s more time to buy a ticket, a helping hand or a seat.

“We want all of our passengers to feel happy and confident when they use the bus to visit friends and family or go to work, school and appointments. Accessible public transport is important to everyone. It’s up to us all to help each other out as we try to get things back to normal.”

Accessibility has long been at the heart of our bus services. In 2020, we are the only UK bus company that has been awarded Leader status under the DfT’s Inclusive Transport accreditation scheme, which encourages transport companies to promote excellent practice around accessibility.
