City care leavers eligible for free bus travel

Today Thu 16th Jul 2026

Care leavers in Brighton & Hove are being encouraged to apply for free bus travel as part of Brighton & Hove City Council’s drive to support young people.

Those aged between 18 and 24 and living in the city will be eligible for a free monthly citySAVER ticket* for use during a 3-month pilot launching in September.

Councillor Trevor Muten, Cabinet member for Transport and City Infrastructure, said:

“I’m so pleased we’re able to launch this offer of free travel for care leavers and I’m confident we’ll be able to continue it beyond the initial 3-month pilot.

We know the challenges young people face when leaving the care system and we should be doing as much as we can to help them with the transition.”

*The citySAVER ticket is valid on Brighton & Hove Buses, Compass bus and Metrobus services in the citySAVER zone area. A monthly Stagecoach pass valid on routes 17 and 700 is also available as part of this scheme.
