St George’s 200th Anniversary Celebration

On Saturday 29th March 2025, St George’s Church in Kemptown are celebrating their 200th Anniversary with an extravaganza of events including two bespoke open-top bus tours.

The open-top bus tours will include exclusive commentary from Hedley Swain, Chief Executive of Brighton and Hove Museums, who will share fascinating insights into the rich history of St George’s Church and its connections with Brighton and Kemptown.

Father Andrew of St George’s Church and the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Cllr Mohammed Asaduzzaman will be joining the exclusive ‘first come, first served’ bus tours.

Ed Wills, Managing Director of Brighton & Hove Buses, said:

“I am delighted that Brighton & Hove Buses are joining in the celebrations that commemorate the 200th anniversary of St George’s Church. We will be providing free open-top bus tours on Saturday at 12:30pm and 2pm departing from St. George’s Church, Kemptown on a first come first served basis. The tour lasts for around an hour where upon Hedley Swain, CEO of Brighton & Hove Museums will provide fascinating insights into how the church links with the local area.”

St George’s 200th anniversary celebrations will also include performances by The Silver Sounds Samba Band, The Tray Dance Group and Tudor Martial Arts.

A free buffet is available, and a bar for the sale of teas, coffee and soft drinks will be open.

The celebration will also include three talks from local historians, an organ recital and stalls from various organisations, including the opportunity to sign up to a local choir!

The 200th Anniversary celebration begins at St George’s Church, St George’s Road, Kemptown at 12pm and finishes at 4pm.
