Children and Young People

We’re pleased to be able to offer children and young people a range of different discounts on our buses.

Up to four children under the age of 19, accompanied by an adult or concessionary pass holder, can travel free for journeys wholly within the Brighton & Hove City area (excluding night services) or for 50p each within the wider East Sussex area (excluding night services). Additionally, unaccompanied Under 19s can travel off-peak for 50p within Brighton & Hove or for £1 within East Sussex.

Our child fares apply to anyone aged under 19 and any reasonable valid ID can be used to prove that you are under 19 when paying on the bus. BusID cards are still required for our mobile and key card tickets.

If you live in West Sussex, East Sussex or Kent and travel on bus routes operated by other bus companies, you might prefer special fares available exclusively in those areas. Find out more here

 Page marker icon East Sussex Freedom Ticket

Under 19s living in East Sussex are able get a card which allows the purchase of a Freedom ticket from the driver for £15 per week, which is accepted for travel on most buses in East Sussex and on routes where journeys start or finish in East Sussex. 16-18 year olds need a 3i-D card to buy one and don't even need to be attending school or college.

 Page marker icon West Sussex 16-20 Saver

Anyone aged 16 to 20 and living in West Sussex can now purchase a 16 to 20 Bus Saver fare or ticket, which is the same price as the existing child rate. The scheme applies to any direct journey starting, wholly within, or finishing in West Sussex. Discounted tickets are available via our app, or from the driver using contactless payment cards or cash. Click here to view the West Sussex 16-20 tickets available on our mobile app.

If you are purchasing tickets on our app, you will need to complete a simple in-app verification process before you are able to activate your first ticket. Once complete, you will be able to purchase and activate further Mobile Tickets without verification up until the day before your 21st birthday. If you are planning on purchasing a ticket from our driver, please make sure to bring a valid proof of age. As an alternative to carrying official documents like passports and birth certificates, Citizencard will also be accepted.
