Text that reads 'back to school with Brighton & Hove Buses'

As families across Brighton & Hove get ready for a new school year, we're here to help make the journey back to the classroom as smooth as possible.

Whether your child is starting secondary school for the first time, heading off to a new college or simply returning after the summer holidays, we're here to help them travel safely, reliably and affordably

Get ready for the new term

Planning ahead can help make those first-day nerves a little easier. Our online journey planner makes it simple to find the best route to school. Just enter your starting point and destination to see the available bus options.

We've also created a dedicated schools travel page, bringing together travel information for secondary schools across Brighton & Hove to help students and parents feel confident before term begins.

To better align with the Seahaven Academy school day from 1st September, route 492 will operate with earlier morning and afternoon journeys, while route 494 will offer earlier morning journeys and later afternoon journeys.

Make travel even easier with our app

Before the new term starts, we recommend downloading the Brighton & Hove Buses app.

The app puts everything you need in one place, allowing you to buy tickets, check timetables, track buses live and plan journeys wherever you are. Having everything ready on your phone can make those busy school mornings much simpler and help students travel independently with confidence.

Child tickets and busID

Child tickets can be purchased through our app. To access child fares, you'll need to complete a quick verification process. Full details of the accepted forms of identification can be found here.

A busID is another great option for regular young travellers. BusIDs are available from the Brighton Travel Hub on North Street or from reception at our Conway Street office. They can be topped up with tickets or used as proof of eligibility for discounted child fares when buying tickets from the driver.

For full details on child fares and busID cards, visit our child fares page.

If you're planning to apply for a busID card, we'd encourage you to do so as soon as possible. Our shops are particularly busy in the run-up to the start of term, so applying early means you'll be ready to travel from day one.

SiblingSAVER

If more than one child in your family travels by bus, our SiblingSAVER scheme could help you save money throughout the school year.

The discount is available when purchasing more than one 90-day pass or 12-month busID citySAVER or networkSAVER ticket for children living at the same address. Tickets must be bought at the same time, although they can have different start dates.

It's a simple way to make school travel more affordable while giving children the freedom and confidence to travel independently.
